The reverberations for former Vice-President Joe Biden were swift and many after a fellow Democrat accused him of inappropriate behavior. Appearing on the Sunday talk shows, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway piled on the pressure and stated that possible top presidential contender ‘has a big problem here.’
‘I think Joe Biden has a big problem here. Because he calls it an affection and handshake but his party calls it inappropriate.’
Ms Conway repeated what many have stated in the past, that this is not a first for Mr Biden, who could be seen repeating this kind of behavior towards many women (and children) in the past years. Any search on youtube or google will yield immediate results.
The White House counselor continued saying: ‘But all of these post-#MeToo allegations and insinuations really don’t comport with probably Joe Biden’s conduct over the years. If anybody just types and creepy uncle Joe videos you come up with a treasure trove,’
‘As someone who is very affection – I tend to hug people,’ she said. ‘I do think that we should examine appropriate conduct in the public sphere.’
Mr Biden would have been one of the top 2020 Democratic contenders if he were to run for President, however the revelations of last week have made that uncertain.
He issued a statement on the matter yesterday, claiming: ‘In my many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort. And not once – never – did I believe I acted inappropriately. If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully.’
‘But it was never my intention. I may not recall these moments the same way, and I may be surprised at what I hear. But we have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And I will.’
