Amateur gymnast Samantha Cerio, a student of aeronautical engineering at the University of Auburn, broke her legs and dislocated her knees in a regional championship over the weekend.
The unfortunate gymnast had already announced in advance that she would be participating in a competition for the last time after eighteen years of high-level sports. She wants to focus on completing her studies.
Cerio’s coach Jeff Graba said after the incident that the gymnast was in a lot of pain, but was particularly concerned about the performance of her bewildered teammates. “While receiving an ovational applause and being carried away by the emergency services, she said,” go help the other girls, “said the trainer. Cerio’s total team, beaten out of the field, eventually finished fourth in the race.
Although Cerio was seriously injured, she already looked ahead positively after the accident. “I’m going to take my rest first,” she reported. It is unknown whether the student has undergone surgery.
On twitter, she stated: “I wanted to reach out and thank everyone who has sent me encouraging messages. I truly appreciate all of the support and prayers that I have have received! I am doing well right now and getting lots of rest! From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!”
