UK Woman Arrested At Dubai Airport Over 2016 Facebook Insult

According to the law in Dubai, and we advise everyone to check it before booking their next trip, you can be arrested for anything you post on social media which someone else finds insulting.

A UK woman has found this out when she arrived at Dubai airport recently for the funeral of her ex-husband.

ckASa07yQR1Ad_-pPKlZApparently, given that she had called his new wife a ‘horse’ on Facebook and the latter reported her to the police for this, she was arrested as such is against the law.

Laleh Sharavesh (pictured with her daughter) is a single mother from Richmond in the UK. The 55-year-old woman, who has a 14-year-old daughter Paris, was married to a Portuguese man for 18 years. For him, she even moved to Dubai four years ago, where he worked and they lived together for eight months.

In 2016, she returned to London, and Pedro would follow much later. At least that was the intention.

In reality, Laleh received divorce papers a few months after her departure from Dubai. A shock for the woman, which got worse when she saw pictures of her ex-husband on Facebook a little later. He got married to a Tunisian woman there. Reason enough for her to respond insultingly.

Ms Sharavesh posted two comments in Farsi, including one that said: “I hope you go under the ground you idiot. Damn you. You left me for this horse.”

The Tunesian woman her ex-husband remarried did not find it funny and posted a complaint with local Dubai police, both for the ‘horse’ and ‘idiot’ comment.

Two years went by and her ex-husband died in Dubai. She flew over there to attend the funeral. Upon arrival last month, she was arrested at the airport for the 2016 Facebook comment.
