The Italian Lega Nord of Mr Matteo Salvini, the German rightwing AfD, the French Rassemblement National of Marine Le Pen and other populist parties in Europe have all agreed to cooperate in order to present a united front at the upcoming EU elections of 26 May 2019.
“The news today is that we will expand our family and try to realize a new European dream. For many citizens, Europe today is no longer a dream, but a nightmare,” said Lega party leader and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini at a press conference in Milan on Monday.
The European Alliance of people and Nations (European Alliance of People and Nations, EAPN) is to arise after the European elections end of may and “freedom” and “Patriotic”, agreed AfD party leader Jörg Meuthen at a meeting with Northern League chief Matteo Salvini in Milan.
Current polling shows that the populist parties are set to double their vote percentages in the upcoming elections.
