In the Chilean town of Puerto Montt, a small passenger plane crashed into a house. The pilot and five passengers were killed. Mayor Harry Jürgensen confirmed this to reporters from 24 Horas. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
The plane which was on its way to Chaitén, crashed just after takeoff. The house on which it landed caught fire. According to the homeowner, nobody was present at that time. The building next door also suffered damage.
Mr Jürgensen said nothing about the identity of the victims, only that it concerns two women and four men. He ordered an investigation into the circumstances and the possibility of more deaths.
The mayor had been informed that for some unknown reason two passengers had decided at the last minute not to board.
The police investigation is ongoing.
