The rumors of possible abuse by one of the teachers of a 4-year-old girl of immigrant origin caused some 200 parents to start a protest at a Brussels school this week.
When a local opposition politician started urging more people to protest and condemning the ‘abuse’ in a Facebook video even before investigators had concluded that there was no abuse but the girl had an ‘infection’ from a disease, all hell broke loose.
In the end, the city of Brussels sent police to disperse the parents and had no choice but to use tear gas against the mob who threw rocks, bottles and eggs at them.
The mayor of the commune of Schaarbeek has ordered the school to remain closed until next week so emotions can return to normal. He has condemned the Facebook messages of the local opposition politician that urged parents to protest.
