A man who was walking in the goldfields of Australia with his metal detector made the discovery of his life. After his device gave a signal, he pulled out a gold nugget with a value of more than $69,000.
The man was walking in the Kalgoorlie neighborhood. Three quarters of all gold mined in Australia comes from that region. Shopkeeper Matt Cook, who sells material to gold diggers, posted photos of the gold nugget online. “It was an experienced amateur prospector. He walked in here with a big smile on his face.”
The lucky man found the gold nugget on a salt flat. The clog was hidden 45 centimeters below the ground. It weighs 1.4 kilograms and is about the same size as a pack of cigarettes. “The density was incredible, really very heavy.”
