A collision between a bus with pilgrims on board and a truck killed at least 21 people and injured 30 more in the Mexican state of Veracruz.
“Seventeen lifeless bodies were taken from the bus and two from the truck. On the way to the hospital, one of the wounded died and not much later another victim who was in serious danger died,” explained Guadalupe Osorno, responsible for civil protection in the state.
The accident occurred in a mountainous area in Maltrata in the state of Veracruz, some 200 miles east of Mexico City.
Images from the Televisa channel show how the bus is lying on its side in flames. The vehicle burned out completely.
The cause of the accident, which took place on a winding road, is currently unclear. It is taken into account that the truck’s brakes were not in order.
